The City of Medford is currently hosting an exhibit of artwork by nine members of the locally based Works-in-Progress Artist Group. The art is on view at Medford City Hall through February 9.
The exhibit, titled “Nine for Nine,” includes work by the following artists: Laurinda Bedingford, Marilyn Davidson, Jennifer DesAutels, Linda Dolph, Sarah Gerould, Sophie Glikson, Judy Kaplan, Tamara Major, and Lisa L. Sears.
Members of the public are invited to an artists’ reception at Medford City Hall on Wednesday, January 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Works-in-Progress Artist Group was founded by Medford resident Jennifer DesAutels in 2008. She hoped that meeting monthly with a small group of other artists would nourish her creative spirit and support other artists working in isolated studios in the local area. The original small group has expanded to more than fifteen artists in the years since 2008.
At monthly meetings, group members provide the moral support and motivation that artists working independently often lack. They also share resources and update each other on funding and exhibition possibilities. Many members participate in other community-oriented educational and creative programs, and the Works-in-Progress Artist Group itself is a long-time member of Medford CACHE (Coalition for Arts, Culture, and a Healthy Economy).
