Long-time Owner of Popular Ice Cream Shop Passes Away

Colleen Hallisey, the long-time owner of Colleen’s ice cream shop in Medford Square, passed away January 4 after battling an illness.

Colleen’s released the following statement on Facebook:

“As many of you may have heard, Colleen Hallisey passed away. Colleen had been ill and in the hospital but, never forgot about her customers and those whose lives she’s touched over her thirty years of business in Medford. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit at the Gaffey Funeral Home in Medford Square, Tuesday, January 9th between 4PM and 8PM. Those who wish to attend, relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral from the Gaffey Funeral Home 43 High St. Medford Square on Wednesday January 10th at 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church Malden at 11 am. Colleen wanted to celebrate her thirtieth year in Medford square by giving back to the community. Given the circumstances, she was unable to do this, but we would like to honor her wish with a celebration of her life after the services. Everyone is welcome back to her shop on 61 high street for lunch and support.”

“Owner of Colleen’s Ice Cream in Medford Square Medford for 30 years. Loving daughter of Eileen (deViller) and the late George L. Hallisey of Malden. Beloved wife of Clark “Mr. Colleen” Merrill III of Stoneham. Cherished companion of Sky and Ditty Colleen’s buddies. Devoted sister of Kathleen and her husband Kevin Downey of Wakefield, Timothy and his wife Darlene Hallisey of Lynn, Richard and his wife Teri Hallisey of Tewksbury, Amy and her husband Mark Pierce of Melrose, and the late Daniel and Paul Hallisey. Loving aunt of Timothy and Katelyn Downey, Joseph, Christina, Diana Hallisey, and Benjamin Pierce. Relatives and friends invited Funeral from the Gaffey Funeral Home 43 High St. Medford Square Medford on Wednesday at 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church Malden at 11 am Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 pm to 8 pm Interment Holy Cross Cemetery Malden.
