Did you know that English At Large hosts Conversation Groups for English language learners in your community? Registration recently closed for our fall session, during which we enrolled 281 local immigrants and refugees. Our Conversation Groups provide a critical opportunity for newcomers with intermediate English language skills to expand their vocabulary, learn about American norms and customs, and build their speaking confidence in a supportive environment. These groups are facilitated by volunteer teams, trained by English At Large staff, and take place in local libraries and other public spaces.
Roberta, one of our Conversation Group participants, recently commented “Thanks to you and the whole English At Large team for the great help in improving my English and make me feel more integrated in the American world.”
English At Large runs Conversation Groups on a trimester schedule; up to 26 different groups run concurrently in various communities across our service area in Middlesex County. The program provides more than 400 learners each year with the skills, support and confidence they need to achieve their potential and fully assimilate into life in the United States. These Groups are offered free of charge, through the generous commitment of our volunteers and the local businesses and individuals who support our work.
English At Large is a nonprofit organization that provides individual and small group instruction through a volunteer network to adult immigrants and other newcomers who want to acquire English language skills as they adapt to life in the United States. Registration for the spring 2018 EAL Conversation Groups begins in December 2017. Join the Conversation! Learn more at www.englishatlarge.org.
