Medford’s new default speed limit has been lowered from thirty to twenty-five miles per hour, according to Mayor Stephanie M. Burke.
The default speed limit is what drivers in the city have to obey when driving on roads where no speed limit is posted.
The Medford City Council unanimously approved the lower speed limit in January by voting in support of a resolution offered by City Councilor Michael Marks.
“The number one complaint I receive from residents is pedestrian safety,” said Councilor Marks at the the time.
Councilor Marks submitted his resolution after the state legislature voted to let communities lower the default speed limit in places where it’s not posted from thirty to twenty-five miles per hour.
