Watch Out for Traffic Delays Due to Boston, College Avenues Intersection Improvements

boston and college avenuesRoad and sidewalk construction on Boston and College Avenues in Medford may cause traffic delays in the Tufts University vicinity beginning Thursday, May 25.

The phased project, which will improve pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular safety conditions at the busy intersection, is scheduled to be completed in mid-August.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the Boston and College Avenue intersection during the road and sidewalk construction beginning Tuesday, May 30.

Pedestrian traffic will be guided away from the work zone. Curtis Hall at 474 Boston Ave. will be open and accessible during construction.

The Medford Police Department will be on site to direct road traffic.

  1. The changes have made this intersection MUCH *more* dangerous! I’d like to know who thought it was a good idea to make the sidewalk suddenly jut out into the road. Since the changes I’ve had numerous close calls with other drivers, as well as road rage directed at my when on my bike, because there is no choice but to ‘take the lane’ when the shoulder suddenly disappears due to a sidewalk that balloons out about 15′ for no apparent reason. Absolutely zero thought given to cyclists, and increases the chances of motor vehicle accidents.

    Dreadful design, waste of the cities money. The changes make the intersection less safe.
