Legoland Giraffe Named in Honor of Medford Boy- Updated

Gio the Giraffe

A giant giraffe constructed from Legos was named in memory of Gio Maggiore.

Maggiore passed away from congenital heart disease last month at just six years of age. He was a student at the Brooks Elementary School and his mother teaches at the Columbus Elementary School.

Legoland Discovery Center Boston, located at Assembly Row in Somerville, renamed “Tessie” on Wednesday afternoon. Master Model Builder Megan Amaral presented a special gift to the family.

More photos of the event were posted to Legoland’s Facebook page.

Gio narrowly lost a bid to have a baby giraffe named in his honor.
