Scaled Back Green Line Extension Project Receives Federal Approval

The Federal Transit Administration has approved a scaled back version of the Green Line extension to Medford and Somerville, according to The Boston Globe.

The cheaper $2.3 billion plan includes smaller stations, one of which will be in Medford at the intersection of Boston and College Avenues.

There are seven planned stops; however, project officials said in February they were going to begin the state environmental review process for extending the Green Line to Route 16 due to public interest.

The anticipated project completion date is December 2021.
