Do you love arts, culture, and the humanities? If so, you can use your interests and talents to support our local creative community by joining the Medford Arts Council. We are seeking new council members, and that just might be you.
So much has been happening in Medford recently. The Medford Arts Council (MAC) is excited to play a unique and vital role at this wonderful moment for our great city. We are a commission of volunteers who are dedicated to making a lasting difference by promoting excellence, access, education, and diversity in local public arts and cultural programming.
MAC members know that it is an important responsibility, a true privilege, and great fun to help make these programs a reality. Here are just a few reasons why you may want to help as well.
With the funding we receive from the state and the City of Medford, we support dozens of projects that benefit thousands of people each year. Our annual grants go to programs in the classroom, library, senior center, community centers, nonprofit organizations, and outdoor spaces of all kinds. For 2017, we granted $56,000 to 67 proposals — a record-breaking year.
We care about community input and the vibrancy of our diverse city. We are always looking for ways to discover what is possible, to connect with new audiences, and to inspire innovative projects. That is why our local priorities this year include: Public art; Collaborations that bring together new creative partners; More programs in the humanities; and Activities that enliven our neighborhoods and public squares.
Local arts and culture programs bring increased tax revenues. MAC understands the importance of investing in our creative community in order to help improve overall quality of life locally and enhancing our economic vitality.
In 2016, MAC was voted Massachusetts’ Council of the Year. While deeply proud of that recognition, we know there is so much more we can do. That is why we are seeking new members who are as committed as we are.
So if you are inspired to make a difference in Medford through our work, please write us at email@example.com. Or stop by one of our monthly meetings. In the meantime, check out the Medford Arts Council website—www.medfordartscouncil.org—to learn more about what we’ve been up to. We think what we do is pretty great. And we hope you will want to do more great things with us.
