A Lynn man will be in court on Monday facing carjacking and assault and battery charges following an incident in Medford early Saturday morning.
According to information released by Medford Police, an Uber driver pulled his car over on Salem Street in Medford around 2:30 am on Saturday, exited his car, and demanded that his four passengers, whom he had picked up in Boston, get out due to their “unruly” behavior. Two of them left, leaving behind a male and female passenger. Police say the male passenger, Nicholas Fabrizio, 33, of Lynn, became “combative” and assaulted the Uber driver before taking off in the Uber driver’s car with the female passenger.
Police were able to identify Fabrizio with information from the other passengers who had exited the car before it was allegedly stolen. Police spoke to Fabrizio on the phone and he ultimately turned himself in on Saturday afternoon.
Fabrizio will be arraigned in Somerville District Court. The stolen car was recovered in Malden and the Uber driver was treated and released in the hospital for minor injuries.
