Early Morning Flash Freeze Keeps Emergency Responders Busy

Extremely icy conditions on Wednesday morning led to a huge car pile-up on the highway, car accidents all over local roads, and at least one fatality. In Medford, firefighters were busy all morning responding to accidents, falls, medical emergencies, and alarms, according to a Facebook post by Medford Firefighters Local 1032.

This accident happened on Fern Road after a car traveling cautiously down an icy hill lost control. The car spun out in a driveway and rolled off a retaining wall before landing on the driver’s side. Good Samaritans helped the shaken up driver out of the car before the fire department responded. The driver suffered only minor injuries.

Fern Road was so icy that the responding fire engine (Ladder 2) had to park at the bottom of the hill. Firefighters Latson and Belanger are pictured here (Lt. O’Neil also responded).
